On the Moh’s scale of hardness, Prehnite has a rating of 6 to 6.5, which determines its medium hardness. Most of the Prehnite is semi-transparent or translucent and at times even transparent specimens are also found.
Prehnite is generally cut in curves or cabochon shapes. There are even such specimens of Prehnite found earlier, which displayed the cat’s eye effect, however, they are rare. Some of the faceted stones are popular in the jewellery market. Prehnite can more often be found in large sizes, sometimes as large as 100 carats.
Prehnite is a relatively an inexpensive gem, however, superior quality Prehnite may be sold approximately equivalent to that of Citrine and Amethyst.
