Cuprite has a very good refractive index, and it can be found in both shimmering, sub-metallic opaque crystals, and in dazzling transparent red crystals. The opaque form of Cuprite can also be seen with some vague red edges.

The color palate of Cuprite is not very rich, it can be found in shades, like scarlet, reddish-purple, brownish-red, crimson, burgundy, reddish-black, and dark gray. Cuprite is a very brittle stone and has a hardness of 3.5-4 on the Moh’s scale of hardness.

Cuprite is generally used for ornamental carvings. It is rarely used for making jewellery, but if used, Cuprite is exclusively shaped and created into cabochons.
