Michael Hill, the Australian jeweler has opened the doors of its first shop in New York at the Queens Center in Elmhurst. The jeweler maker has entered New York after eight years of testing waters in the United States. It had opened its first US Store in 2008.
Apart from the Queens Center store, Michael Hill is also ready with another store at Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, NY. The Roosevelt Field mall is known to house other big jewelers such as Blue Nile and Jared stores. The company is also planning another store at the American Dream Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey, though it has run up into numerous delays and continues to be under construction.
Once all the proposed stores are open, including the ones in Queens and Long Island, Michael Hill will have 11 stores in the US market.
Though Michael Hill has been operational in the US for several years, it continues to lose money. However the Australian company views the American market as a test market, though in its fiscal year 2015, the sale results showed that the year-over-year comps were positive.
