Elizabeth Taylor had gifted an 18-karat gold 1970 Omega Constellation watch to one of her longtime lovers and two-time husband, Richard Burton. The watch which soon became an icon of a tumultuous romance is being put up for sale in the United Kingdom.
The watch was gifted by the actress to Burton after he received the Commander of the Order of the British Empire award sometime in 1970. It was probably gifted by her when they were staying at their Gstaad, Switzerland house during the 1970 fall. After Burton’s death, the watch remained with the family and it was only five years back that it was sold.
The iconic Omega watch is expected to be sold at anything between $7000 and $9000. Silverstone, the auction house selling the watch, will be donating everything it receives for the sale to the Alzheimer’s Society. This is the wish of the private seller’s family.
Silverstone is selling the timepiece as a part of the Salon Prive sale which also features 16 other historical and exquisite timepieces. The Salon Prive auction will also be selling 62 coveted automobiles. Online bidding is currently on while on September 4, on-site and online buyers will bid together.
