The name of Cuprite has been derived from a Latin word, “Cuprum” because of the copper contents in it. This stone was first described in 1845. The Cuprite stone forms well-developed cubic structured crystals having bright internal reflection and fiery red garnet color. The red garnet color that Cuprite has is basically inside an almost black crystal. The metallic lustre of Cuprite makes it a more wonderful stone to work with.

Metaphysical Properties

The soft, heavy, and brittle Cuprite is a red oxide mineral (Cu2O) and is a significant ore of copper. It is a derivative mineral that is formed by the weathering of copper sulphide minerals. This stone is widespread as earthy masses, grains and crystals in the areas where copper oxidizes in lodges. Being the major ore of copper, Cuprite is found in many localities all around the world.

The name of Cuprite, as told before, has been derived from the word Cuprum because of the significance of copper in it. Cuprite has a very good refractive index, and it can be found in both shimmering, sub-metallic opaque crystals, and in dazzling transparent red crystals. The opaque form of Cuprite can also be seen with some vague red edges.

The color palate of Cuprite is not very rich, it can be found in shades, like scarlet, reddish-purple, brownish-red, crimson, burgundy, reddish-black, and dark gray. Cuprite is a very brittle stone and has a hardness of 3.5-4 on the Moh’s scale of hardness.

Cuprite is generally used for ornamental carvings. It is rarely used for making jewellery, but if used, Cuprite is exclusively shaped and created into cabochons.

    Hello Alina… we will offer you some tips that will take care of not only Cuprite but also of other gemstones too. Always put your jewel pieces off whenever you go for bath or perform some chemical tasks like when you use perfumes etc. wash it off with Luke warm water and wipe it with a soft cloth. Keep it away from other talismans to avoid scratches on it.
